Local villagers who grew the plant also knew that if you ate a dish with this local fruit in it, it would make you less likely to overeat for the rest of the meal. This is because Garcinia Cambogia contains hydroxcitric acid (or “HCA”), which has been found to cause two reactions in the body:

Firstly, it makes you happier! HCA has been found to increase your serotonin levels, and this is important because serotonin is a neurotransmitter which can affect your mood. Many medications that target depression contain serotonin. Increased serotonin in your system can make you less anxious and emotional, which in turn can lead to less eating on your part (it turns out when we’re under stress or overly emotional we turn to food for comfort).

Secondly, the HCA extract helps your body to store less fat from the food that you eat. Essentially, your body needs an enzyme, called citrate lyase, to convert the sugars and carbohydrates in your system into fats. HCA prevents the enzyme from doing this, and the excess sugars and carbohydrates are consequently used by your body as fuel.

While they may have not known the scientific reasons behind Garcinia’s appetite suppression qualities, locals in places like Indonesia and Malaysia knew for centuries that the plant was effective and also safe to use (unlike many of the so-called “natural” slimming pills and shakes on the market today). Many people report that they have sped up their weight loss efforts dramatically, just by taking a small amount of the extract on a daily basis. A research study found that over an eight week period subjects taking regular amounts of HCA decreased their BMI and body weight by up to five to six per cent.

It is also worth noting that Garcinia Cambogia is an easy ingredient to add to your daily routine, especially as most of the supplements being sold today are in capsule form. It is also a cheap weight loss supplement, when compared to other natural products for sale.
